The Gorropu Gorge (in the Sardinian language, the word gorropu means "gorge") is a deep and long chasm located in the Supramonte plateau, created by intense erosive action of the Rio Flumineddu.

Gorropu (or Gorroppu) is a gorge, created from erosion and located in the Supramonte area, between the territories of Orgosolo (Nuoro) and Urzulei (Ogliastra). It has been shaped over time by the force of the Rio Flumineddu rivulet that flows along its bed, at a depth of 500 metres.

There's plenty of tourist information in Sardinia that tells you the Gola su Gorropu is the deepest gorge in Europe. It's not (see below). But that doesn't really matter when you're standing at.

Gola su Gorropu is Europe's most profound gorge; it has been cut deep into the Supramonte karst plateau by Riu Flumineddu. The gorge itself is short, less than 5km long, and seen from above shaped like an inverted "S".

June 4, 2018 Explorer The Gola Gorropu has to come up with European superlatives. It is one of the deepest on our continent, with almost 500-meter-high walls of karstic rock. Their beauty and charisma is just as breathtaking. Huge white rocks lined the route in the almost dried up riverbed of the Rio Flumineddu.

Finally into the gorge of Su Gorropu. To be able to enter the gorge you have to pay a few euros per person entrance to the employee in the white tent. You will receive some explanation, if desired a helmet and small groups are formed. There are two routes; one yellow and one green. You have to remember that the gorge fills up with water in winter.

The "Gola di Su Gorroppu" (Gorroppu Gorge) is a valley and canyon in Nuoro province, eastern Sardinia. Believed to be one of the largest canyons in Europe, it makes for a great day of trekking in Sardinia. From the parking area, you can follow the easy route to the canyon and enjoy your canyon walking.

The canyon walls reach the height of 500 meters and host animals that live only here.Once you have finished the trail it is advisable to continue along the right side of the mountain leading to the entrance of the gorge.
